4 Things Scheels Does Right
A Scheels opened in my town this past month. They took over the old Sears that had been vacant for as long as I can remember. Our mall, like many across the country, has been going downhill for years. Just about the time Amazon started taking over our lives, the mall began to look like a ghost town. Now filled with a bunch of random shops, the mall isn’t the place to shop anymore—we all know that.
I decided (along with what seemed like the entire city of Tulsa) to visit Scheels on a Monday at 11 a.m. I was shocked to find the parking lot packed, so I ended up parking on the opposite side of the mall and walked through the entire place to reach my destination. The mall was nearly empty, but when I entered Scheels, it felt like stepping into a completely different world. The place was full of people, energy, and excitement.
So what is Scheels doing right that’s drawing in these crowds? Here are four key things that make Scheels a game-changer in today’s retail world:
-
They Bring the Fun – Scheels understands that today’s customers want more than just products—they want experiences. With a full-size Ferris wheel, interactive sports simulators, and a huge aquarium, Scheels has made their store a destination, not just a place to shop. People bring their families, make memories, and enjoy spending time there.
-
They Value Knowledgeable Service – Scheels’ staff are experts in what they sell, and they share that expertise with genuine enthusiasm. It’s refreshing to walk into a store where employees are ready to engage, help, and offer insights that go beyond a basic sales pitch. They care about making sure you leave with the perfect product for your needs.
-
They Foster Community – From hosting in-store events to offering areas where people can try out gear or just hang out, Scheels creates a space that feels like a community hub. It’s a place where people connect, have fun, and find a sense of belonging that’s hard to replicate online.
-
They Create a Memorable Atmosphere – Everything about Scheels, from the displays to the design, is crafted with thought and creativity. It’s a store designed to be enjoyed, explored, and photographed. Every corner is visually interesting, making it a place people want to talk about and share.
Scheels has transformed our old, struggling mall by offering something unique and experience-driven. They’ve shown that brick-and-mortar stores can absolutely thrive—when they provide a reason for people to visit. Small businesses, take note: it’s not just about what you sell; it’s about the experience you create. 🛍️✨ #RetailSuccess #CustomerExperience #SmallBusinessTips
